For this project, my junior seminar teachers made a slideshow for each kid that detailed life after high school, and as we went through the project, we had to personalize it to ourselves. The purpose of this assignment was to learn how to find our monthly income based off the career we selected, and to budget our income properly in order to pay for monthly finances, like rent or car insurance.
The 21st Century Skill that I associate with this project is Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy. This project showed me what it was like to make smart economic decisions when it comes to monetary spending. This project also made me want to hustle in order to make more money, which could be equivalent to having an entrepreneurial spirit.
I’m proud that I was able to properly calculate the different monthly expenses, like car insurance, student loans, rent, membership fees, etc. The teachers helped us with a few trickier calculations like gas mileage, but when it came to how much I would have to pay, I'm proud to say that I made sure to choose items that weren't overly expensive, but were at least in good condition.
The difficult thing about this project was when I had to total up my expenses, and figure out how much savings I had in a month. The first time, it came out wrong because I had miscalculated my gas mileage. The second time was also wrong because I realized that I had forgotten to add in the student loan fees. It took me until the third or fourth try in order to finally have an accurate calculation, and I was very fortunate enough to have at least a couple hundred dollars in savings each month.
