In Media and Technology, we’ve been working on multiple projects. Most of the time, we’re working on KCNN, but in between episodes, our teacher, Mr. Lucas Zarro, has us working on short films. For KCNN, me and my sister work on the Watch It or Don’t Watch It segment, which is a movie review segment, where we talk about different movies, and suggest if you should watch it, or not. As for short films, I’ve completed a short film that was predominantly a series of close up shots, and for an upcoming short film I’m the Unit Production Manager (UPM). I keep the production on schedule.
The 21st Century Skill that I associate this project with is Interpersonal Skills. For my series of close ups short film, I worked independently, but for KCNN and the upcoming short films, I work in a group. I’ve had a variety of experiences with production groups during the class, and some are great, and everyone pulls their own weight, and some need a bit of encouragement. This upcoming short film that I’m working on was a pit behind when I came back to school, but they had an idea that was solid, so we all worked together and came up with a synopsis of the story so that I could layout the pre production in a Google document.
I’m proud of these assignments because working on them has shown me the process of how movies, tv shows, and music videos are made. Seeing that this is the industry I’m going into, the projects that I’ve worked on have taught me skills that I’ll need in the future, such as working with different teams with different areas of expertise.
The most difficult part of these assignments is the initial reaction of finding out who you’re working with. Some production teams have everyone working smoothly, and churning out work within their first team meeting. Some need to have multiple meetings to get work started. It’s a game of chance when it comes to who you’ll be working with, and I’ve had it where I’m either excited to be working with a team, or wishing to work independently. The good news is that most of my classmates are willing to work, and to help those who get easily distracted back on track, so I rarely have a hard time working in a group.
