In Senior Seminar, we were asked to have five conversations with members of our target audience. In order to have meaningful conversations that would benefit my project and establish a connection with my audience, I created five method cards. Method cards have four qualitative questions and five quantitative questions written on them, and each question serves to answer the overall topic of the card. For example, the overall topic of a method card could be ‘a day in the life’, and an example of a qualitative question would be ‘what did you do this morning’. An example of a quantitative question would be ‘do you drive or walk to school’. The qualitative questions establish a connection with your audience, and ask them to talk about their experiences. The quantitative questions gather data and results.
The 21st Century Skill that I associate with this project is Civic Literacy and Engagement. At surface level, it may seem like method cards are more of a communication tool. However, the conversations that we’re having are with people in the community. Through having these conversations, we’re establishing connections in the community, and talking about how our senior projects will be beneficial to them.
I’m proud that I was able to complete this assignment within a day. This assignment had been assigned the first week back from fall break, when I was absent from school. I’m proud that I was able to watch the recordings, and understand the concept so that I could complete them, as soon as I could because last week, we already had to complete our first conversation within our target audience.
The most difficult task was getting through all the questions. I have nine to ten questions on each card, and when I was having my first conversation, I was not able to get through them all. If I was to do this project again, I would probably try to keep the conversation going with my questions.
