For this assignment, the class was asked to work in groups and watch videos on either the Caribbean during Pre-Colonial times, or the Aztec and Inca Empires. They were then asked to present what they had learned to their partner, and based on the summary given to them, the partner was supposed to summarize the video that their partner had told them about. I was virtual on the day that this activity took place, so I was asked to watch all three videos, and summarize what each video was about.
The 21st century skill that I associate with this project is Global Awareness, as I learned about how these societies formed, what their lifestyles were like, and how their ways of life changed after they were conquered. I improved my global awareness as I learned about the lifestyles and cultures of societies during certain periods of time that I knew little about. I had no prior knowledge of what life was like in the Pre-Colonial Caribbean, and I only knew a few basic facts about the Aztec and Inca empires.
I am proud that I was able to complete this task without needing a partner in order to finish the activity, and that I was able to take efficient notes on all the videos. I was also proud that I was able to retain some of the information from the videos, like that one of the valuables that was very popular to trade in the Caribbean during Pre-Colonial times was jade, and that migration to the Caribbean during that time, mainly came from Central and South America.
The most difficult thing about this assignment was that I had to finish it relatively quickly, as I had a zero for the assignment in Powerschool, because I hadn’t done it on my virtual day. Luckily, I was able to finish the assignment in a timely manner, and still do a good job. If I could go back and do something different, I probably would’ve given myself more time to watch the videos, as I feel like I would’ve picked up more information if I had time to go back and rewatch the videos.
