In my anthropology class, I was asked to make a timeline of important events in human evolution and history that I had learned. An outline was given of mandatory events that had to be put on the timeline, but the professor said that if there were other events in human history that we wanted to include we could. I drew my timeline, and then put the events into chronological order, starting with the existence of the last common ancestor humans had with living apes all the way to my birth date. I color coded my timeline to make it more organized, and eye-catching.
The 21st Century Skill that I associate this project with is Information Skills. The dates for the events on my timeline were in a multitude of sources. Some dates were mentioned in the textbook for the class, some were mentioned in Powerpoints that our professor would use in class, and some of them I had to research online.
I’m proud of this project because it came out very organized, and it was easy for me to read, and understand. The professor had said that she assigned this project, so that the students could have a tool to use while going through the class, and reading about the different dates throughout human history. I’m proud then that I created a useful tool for me to use during this class.
The most difficult task was finding the exact dates for certain events. As I mentioned earlier, the dates on the timeline were located in different sources, and so it was a scavenger hunt finding all the dates. The date for the end of Prehistory Europe took me at least a half hour to find. If I was to do this project again, I might want to add designs to my timeline, so that I can easily understand by looking at the timeline what happened during the listed events, such as what happened during the Pleistocene.
